Specific Intervention Information Websites As I’m an evidence based decision making sort of girl, it’s my goal to bring you websites that summarize scientific information that is complete and accurate about different topics of interest in birth. I want you to have the information you need to make the decisions that will be right for you in labor. Please visit these sites and read up! I know you will make decisions with confidence knowing “the numbers” behind your choices! Kim James Information on Epidurals web page – This webpage gives information that goes beyond the “should you or shouldn’t you have an epidural” It talks about what you can do to make an epidural more effective and less risky if you choose to have one, and the evidence based reasons you may want to consider other pain relief measures. Information on Episiotomy – This website is a little bit disorganized as it just lists results of study after study regarding the efficacy of episiotomies, and the outcomes associated with them for Mom and Baby. However, disorganization aside, it has a ton of information to help you decide how you feel about undergoing an episiotomy during your birth. Information on Electronic Fetal Monitoring – This website is a bit disorganized (same person made it as the episiotomy site) but it has fantastic information about the efficacy and use of EFM! Homebirth Scientific Research Summaries – If you are toying with the idea of homebirth and want to know “the numbers” about it this is a great site! It has results of many studies, although they are a bit disorganized! Phamacological Pain Relief During Labor – This article is really great! It gives scientific information about EXACTLY what has been found to occur in studies of Pharmacological Pain Relief during labor. No scare tactics about strange stuff happening, just research and the truth. |

Birthing Naturally.Net – This website has a ton of articles and information that are informative. They have some quizes so that you can learn more about what you may want during your labor, and some exercises that can be fun to do! Mothering.com – This website is a little bit crunchy granola but then I think lurking inside of each of us is a crunchy granola mood or two at least, so when you’re ready for that head over here! Babycenter.com – The best part of this website is the week by week emails you can get that update you on the development of your baby. When it comes to the articles they are factual about standard hospital procedures, but they fail to mention that you as the patient (or really the consumer!) may choose which procedures you would like! They also fail to mention the positive and negative aspects of each procedure. I don’t really feel that they provide a lot of evidencial information for parents to make decisions, but more just outline standard procedures at most hospitals, and most OB/GYN care providers. Dr. Moz – This is a fun website with gifts and ideas specifically geared at Dad! |
Birth Stories Websites Birthstories.com – I can’t stand reading other people’s crazy bad birth experiences, but I LOVE reading an empowering birth story where Mom really felt like the experience was an affirmation of her as a person and her accomplishments as a woman. |

People will often candidly share experiences they’ve had with your birth place choice, or care provider that may help you decide if that person is the best care provider for you.
